The Society was founded in 1975, European Heritage year, in response to the outcry at the many historic buildings being demolished at that time in Croydon (e.g. the Whitgift School), and is affiliated with the Civic Trust and many other organisations such as the Green Belt Council and English Heritage.

It seeks to protect, conserve and preserve, and in some cases enhance the green and built heritage which remains a rich resource in Croydon Borough.
{short description of image} It takes special interest in historic buildings, transport, new roads, pollution, open spaces and footpaths.
{short description of image} It publishes local history books, has open meetings once a month, arranges historic walks and can speak to your organisation on many aspects of Croydon's rich heritage.

The Croydon Society is the Civic & Amenity Society for the London Borough of Croydon, Surrey, UK

We are affiliated to the Civic Trust and are an independent Charity.
